Introduction
There are many religions in Ancient China. Eighty-five percent of people in China now have a religion. The other fifteen percent now are atheists.
Buddhism
Buddhism was brought in to China about two thousand years ago. The religion was accepted by most of the Chinese. It influenced art and literature. Buddhism is now the most popular and important religion in China.
Confucianism
Confucianism is not a real religion. It is an ethical and philosophical system. The philosophy is a belief that everybody should be educated. Confucianism was started by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty.
Taoism
Taoism started in China one thousand eight hundred years ago. It started during the Warring States Periods. There is a specific way of living in Taoism. There had to be three hundred temples in a county. In each temple there had to be thirty thousand people. Taoism influenced literature and medicine.
Islam
Islam was introduced to China in the seventh century. It was introduced in the Tang Dynasty.
Christianity
Christianity was introduced in the Tang Dynasty. Christianity was mostly in Southern China.
